Glenn Maxwell is quiet an amazing and talented player in Australian cricket team. He has some antique skills with the bat and the bowl as well. He has outstanding shot selection which could make it critical for a bowler to set a proper delivery to take his wicket. He is always been successful with sweep shots, pull-shots and reverse sweeps.
Maxwell is capable of making huge scores by hitting on his favorite areas which is definitely difficult for the fielders to cover. He has been an inspirational player and as we talk about his batting in T20 format; it’s purely aggressive.
In World T20 2014 group stage match against Pakistan, he scored 74 off just 33 deliveries and he became almost troublesome for the bowlers. Even Saeed Ajmal was unable to stop him, and Maxwell was merciless for every next bowler. He smashed 6 sixes and 7 fours, and that was all entertaining for the spectators.
Apparently, T20 format insists the batsman to become aggressive, which could be entirely senseless because hitting a big shot doesn’t mean a boundary every time. If the ball is caught by the fielder, batsman have to move to the dressing room back. But still, if there is a ‘good luck’ and ‘capability’ of hitting big shots in this format, then Maxwell is a great example. The way he played against Pakistani bowlers was entirely joyous to watch and surely amazing.
However, Maxwell’s innings didn’t helped Australia to win the match. Because finally, Maxwell was caught by the fielder and got out, after that, no player was able to win it for Australia. Pakistani bowlers then made it to the victory and Australia in the end, lost the match by 16 runs.
On Pakistan side, Umar Akmal played fabulous innings of 94 runs in the same match against Australia, which helped Pakistan to set a target of 191 in 20 overs. We’ll be sharing it in our next post. Meanwhile, watch video highlights of Maxwell innings below:
